Dear colleagues,

« CGSP Teaching-Research » invites you to attend, on Monday, March 22 at 12:30 pm, a meeting dedicated to the question of the extension of the contracts of the PhD students, post-doctoral students and assistants who have been impacted by the health crisis (practical information below). [French version here.]

For the last year, mobilizations have regularly been taking place on campus and we have intervened in ULB bodies in order to ensure that the members of the scientific community are adequately supported by the ULB through the health crisis (a quick recap is available here). We are advocating for assistance amounting to up to 6 months of funding in the form of wages, and for the contractual renewal of assistants in their final year. During the last union delegation on February 23 2021, the authorities proposed measures that we consider to be unacceptable as they currently stand: the criteria and duration of the grants for the extension of scholarships are largely insufficient and post-doctoral students are excluded (arrêté). Moreover, the authorities are reluctant to grant exceptional renewals to assistants who have introduced a request for reasons related to the health crisis, even though these are provided for in the coordinated text of the provisions relating to the careers of the scientific and academic corps.

Only a grassroots mobilization can bring about change in the authorities’ stance on the issue and ensure that our colleagues receive sufficient assistance for this year and those to come. This assembly will be the opportunity to inform you of the progress that has been made and, especially, to collectively discuss the optimal way to ensure that the members of the scientific corps receive adequate support, given the efforts they have made. Similar movements are also being launched in other French-speaking universities.
